Life after Daesh

Opportunities and challenges for the integration of women and children in society

Rape, selling, enslavement and forced marriage of women and children are usual treatments by IS-Jihadists. Thousands of women and children have already been taken captive as “War booty” by the IS.

These women and children either had to give in to the will of the IS-Jihadists or else they had to face severe torture and abuse until the will of the women and children were broken and they agreed to a marry the IS-fighters which then opened the doors of rape, enslavement and social isolation.

These tragic events left the women and children not only with physical pain but also psychological damage of unspeakable measure. There are already existing organizations which offer medical treatment to the victims which have made it out of the captivity of the IS-Jihadists. Unfortunately these Organizations more than often lack psychological support for the victims or these tragic experiences.

The integration and resocialization of these women and children are still a big problem in today’s world. For many of these women and children it is impossible to go back to a normal life in society and to lead a normal life again.

To gain a closer understanding of these tragic events we have invited four women to our workshop who have agreed to speak about their experiences with the IS.

Now questions arise such as:

  • Which political opportunities exist?
  • How could we achieve solutions on a social level?
  • How can we bring medical as well as psychological help towards these victims?

Now we want to speak about these problems and questions with the help of experts of different fields to find possible approaches to solutions for these questions with which we can support the victims of the IS to integrate and return to a normal life again.
