Religion and Diversity of Thought

In a cosmopolitical society like today it is not a special case if a Muslim, Christian, Jew, Buddhist and other religions live door to door. Through this mixing of different cultures and religions doors have opened for expansion of horizons, development of countries and also creation of beneficial subcultures.

However, this meeting of different religions also opened the doors to hate, racism and discrimination. These consequences of today’s multicultural society are becoming more obvious day by day through demonstrations, attacks on places of worship and violent attacks on the streets.

The negative consequences have caused that it seems like there is no possibility for an open and peaceful dialogue between the different parties to find possible solutions to improve the current state of affairs which worsen day by day instead of getting better.

Current events lead to questions such as:

  • How could we create a peaceful coexistence between the different religions?
  • To what degree could the government intercede to improve the current situation?
  • Is the only solution for every religion and culture to isolate itself from the others?
  • Do people with religions with a different origin than the country they currently reside in have to throw away their culture and rituals and completely submit themselves to the culture of the state to find peace?

In our fifth workshop “Religion and Diversity in Thought: Conditions for Peaceful Coexistence” on March 22, 2020 with our experts from different fields we want to try to answer such questions and to find possible solutions to create an peaceful environment between the different religions on a national as well as a international scale.
